Documentary: Kiss the Ground

Regenerative agriculture is defined as “a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services. It aims to capture carbon in the soil and aboveground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation and climate change.”

If you are interested in learning more about regenerative agriculture, I highly recommend you check out Kiss the Ground, a documentary narrated by Woody Harrelson, science experts, and other celebrity activists.

The documentary brings light to a different type of farming that we may not have heard of yet— using soil as a powerful solution to climate change. The documentary starts off by talking about carbon emissions in our atmosphere, then explains how the way we farm is partially contributing to the problem (due to tillage), and essentially presents to us that if we cover the earth with more greenery year round we could solve the entire climate crisis within a decade.

There are graphics, video footage, data presented in a very digestible way. The explanation of carbon sequestration and returning it to the soil as a productive solution for agriculture and the way we grow our food is one of the best that I’ve heard.

The film is very enlightening and really shows us how carbon farming is literally the future in saving humanity, solving climate change, water scarcity, and feeding the world! Overall, I find it an inspiring film and highly recommend you watch it. Find it on Netflix here.
