Texas’ iconic bluebonnets have begun growing this year! While they are most commonly found in the wild as a blueish purple, many other varieties can be found, such as pink, purple, and white.

There are many other types of wildflowers common to Texas. Some common types are listed below to help you identify them! See if you can find any in UTD’s wildflower planting areas.

Indian blanket, found in sunny areas.

Indian paintbrush, usually found in red, but also exists in white, yellow, cream, and orange!
Evening primrose, a flower that only opens in the evening during hot weather. A few different colors of these can be found.

While maximilian sunflowers look like many other species, they are Texas’ wild native species! They are noted for their yellow center and bushlike growth.
Green Prairie Coneflower, a unique red orange flower common throughout the state.
