This fall, many of UT Dallas’ events and organizations will look quite different than they have before. The Office of Sustainability wants to make sure that information regarding events and plans are as clear as possible!

Comet Composting
Comet Composting is a program where students, faculty, and staff can receive a composting caddy and learn to compost. Trainings are held several times a semester.
Due to sanitation concerns, Comet Composting shut down over the summer, but will be beginning again with the start of the semester. Trainings will be held online over Zoom, with compost caddy pick up and drop off located at the Community Garden greenhouse. With more people cooking at home, it’s a great time to learn to compost. Stay posted for more details regarding training dates!
Campus Cleanup
Campus Cleanup is a monthly volunteer event were students meet on Saturday mornings and remove litter and trash from the grounds.
Due to concerns about social distancing, Campus Cleanup will be suspended until further notice. It will be replaced with Watershed Warriors, for anyone who is still interested in helping out in this way!
Watershed Warriors
One of the newest programs, Watershed Warriors is a cleanup project that students can engage in individually or in pairs, allowing safe distancing and COVID-19 precautions. Watershed Warriors originally was successful over the summer, and will be extended into the school year.
Students can sign up here, visit the Community Garden greenhouse to pick up supplies, and record their volunteer hours and trash cleaned up on their own time.

Community Garden
Plans for the Community Garden aren’t finalized quite yet, but plot holding gardeners can expect to continue to care for their plots as usual. Gardening weeks are expected to replace gardening days, with more details to follow! The garden will need extra help with tasks such as weeding and mulching, if you see a need, try to fill a need.
Sustainability Month
October is Sustainability Month! Both the Office of Student Volunteerism and the Office of Sustainability plan to have virtual events available for students to participate in, such as informative upcycling events and talks. Keep and eye out for more information!
There’s still a lot going on as fall begins, and the more information, the better! If anyone has any questions regarding sustainability events, including dates, safety, etc., please reach out to the Office of Sustainability!
